The demo I did for a local Police department went pretty well today,
although at the end one of their sergeants asked me a question and then
proceeded to criticize the Koga system currently used by their department, saying
that they should use more strikes and kicks to stop the bad guys.
Unfortunately, I couldn't think of a good interuption to try to stop them from
a heated verbal exchange of words, so I left without much of a chance to debrief
and get some feedback with the training staff,
However, they were all very polite and professional with me and I'm grateful
I had a chance to meet with them.
Let's switch over to the issue of strikes and kicks:
The feedback I'm getting from my police officer friends is that many departments
no longer teach strikes and kicks to try to get around the liability issues involved.
Evidently, a large number of criminals, when caught in the act of a crime, who then
resist arrest and end up getting hurt, well they sue the police.
So many police departments are trying to use self-defense methods that won't hurt
the suspect, which can be quite a challenge, especially when the suspect is trying to
hurt or kill the officer.
Oh well all in a days work.
Have a wonderful day!
