How to Escape a Headlock

Your four fingers will go behind on the back of the person's neck,
and your thumbs should go into the tender area on slightly back
from the throat. To find it, just feel around for your pulse. Once
you find it, try it on your friends, but be careful. They'll pass out
if you do this too long or try it too many times.

  2. Excellent! Tried it on myself and on a friend. It really works. Going to be very succesful tactic for the ladies. Especially here in South-Africa. Rapists usually grab females in a headlock position putting their other loose hand over their mouths pulling them backwards to a secluded area. Enough time will be given using this technique to escape the perpetrator. Well Done!

  3. Hi, Mr. Kubler! Though I still have to try it on my friends (won't dare try it on my family, too dangerous), I know it works. I immediately felt its power when I tried it on myself.

This is the first time I encountered this technique of breaking out of a headlock. Just don't know if it cud work with a very tall assailant. Anyway, one can always do a foot- or shin-stomping technique, couldn't I?
    Thanks for the video.- nene

  4. For a very tall assailant, if you suddenly drop all your weight onto him as you grab his arm, it will put him forward and down to your reach.

Stomping can work if it causes them pain and if they are sensitive to pain. I've met some who weren't.

    Thanks for your input.

  5. 1st, from one martial artist to another I give you respect and credit for doing something as necessary and noble as teaching people how to defend themselves. 2nd, my comments/opinion are given in the most sincere spirit of constructive criticism to further knowledge and evolution of martial arts/self defense.
While this may be a mechanically possible technique (in a cooperative exercise such as the one shown in the vid clip) I don't believe it’s a very probable technique, meaning applying it in a true conflict with real stress, fear, adrenaline and a very uncooperative…obviously…attacker.

Reasons for my critique are as follows:
Position of strength…assailant is in a more powerful position while you’re trying to apply a blind technique feeling around with your hands which reduces your probability of getting it on the first try. Attacker has very high probability of countering because he will be able to see your hands before they get to his neck.
Does not allow for protection of your own neck and from the mechanics of the technique actually makes it easier for the attacker to choke up and constrict because reaching your arms back might have a propensity for lifting the chin which obviously would be a negative.
Also I don't believe this would be a good method for smaller lighter women if attacked by a bigger stronger assailant. Contrary to the old adage "size doesn't matter" I say it does.
This is just a few of the cons I see with this method.

My recommendation would be to immediately grab the arm of the attacker to prevent constriction and immediately deliver multiple heavy head butts. The back of your head is much harder then his face. Then of course follow up with other striking counters of your choosing if they are still stubborn and won’t let go. Other counters such as back elbows grabbing/striking/squeezing the groin and of course the proverbial foot stomp and shin rake if you like.
Point being this tactic…in my opinion….is fiercer, faster and more effective because it doesn’t require the accuracy of trying to get to your attackers carotid arteries when you can’t even see what you’re doing.

  6. Sir, i wud imagine "extreme self-defense" could also be "worst-case scenario," but maybe i'm wrong here! But, you're right - text don't matter, actual does. That said, I'm out of these discussions. Thanks!
