An Observer

Last Saturday I went to observe combat hapkido founder John Pellegrini teach a seminar.

It had been awhile since I was in a traditional martial arts class, so it was an interesting experience. I had forgotten how complex the martial arts were until, John starting showing a series of moves.

As he counted off 1, 2, 3 I noticed that there were actually about 6 or 7 parts, thus making it difficult to follow, although he probably did make his version of hapkido simplier than the original.

John then proceeded to say that they use no stances, after which he stepped back into a stance. However, he did correct himself, saying that they just have the one stance.

I've always struggled with having to do 'things' before defending. (example: getting into a stance, bringing my hands up [which signals that I'm ready. So much for retaining the element of surprise. Oh well.]

Overall John did a great job of presenting his material and it was fun to watch.

Speaking of watching. Go check out what you missed at our 'Big Kuta seminar'.

Lakewood YMCA Hikuta Self Defense

The Hikuta self defense class at the Lakewood YMCA is going very well.

The format we are using is very well balanced.

We begin with some exercises and stretches, followed by a self defense tip.
Then I bring everyone through the development of their power move.
From there we do techniques.

If you live in driving distance, don't miss your chance to attend this weekly
Hikuta class
.

Dogs on the beach

The other day I was on the beach with my wife and children and I saw a big dog chasing a smaller one. Then suddenly the smaller dog stopped, turned around and lunged at the bigger dog. The bigger dog quickly backed away, because the the little dog had enough of the chase and decided to do something different.

If you're tired of being chased by bullies or living with the concern of wondering how you would defend against someone bigger than you, or if you were attacked by 3 or 4 people; try something different.

Try Hikuta. It will help you turn things around. You'll have a different point of view about attackers that no one will ever be able to take away.

It won't matter if there's one or several, big or small. You'll be able to stop them and get away.

Go here http://www.hikuta.com to find out how you can start.

All the best,

Children's class was explosive. Lot's of kids and lots of energy.
Adult class was great. They were really getting into the class.

If you live in driving distance. Come see for yourself what Hikuta is
all about and how you can use something different to defend yourself.
