How to Survive a Mugging

A gaping hole suddenly appeared below a house making the concrete foundation give way near the kitchen sending a man 10 feet underground in Placer County, trapping him beneath rubble and killing him.

Just as suddenly as this tragedy happened, so also muggers suddenly attack their victims overwhelming them to rob them and sometimes kill them.

Here are 5 things you can do to Survive a Mugging:

  1. Watch for anyone trying to distract you by getting in your way or asking you a question. Also pay attention to sudden sounds, where someone might be running toward you from the side or from behind.
  2. Keep moving no matter what and keep looking all around to stay alert. A moving target is a hard target.
  3. Stand up straight and keep your head up to stay alert.
  4. Watch out for persons who are a different race than yourself, especially if there are two or more.
  5. Avoid shortcuts and unfamiliar territory. You might need to cross the street to avoid a potentially dangerous person.
